Getting to Vaison la Romaine

From Paris:

By Car: Driving from Paris airports (either CDG or ORY) to Vaison la Romaine is a picturesque journey of approximately 7 hours, covering around 650 kilometers via the A7 highway. The route offers beautiful scenery as you pass through the French countryside.

By TGV (High-Speed Train): Alternatively, you can take the TGV from Paris to Avignon, which typically takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes. From Avignon, Vaison la Romaine is approximately a 50-minute drive via the D976 road.  Cars can be rented at the TGV station. 

Closest Airports:

From Marseille, Nice and Lyon

Airports: Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) and Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) are the nearest major airports to Vaison la Romaine. A bit further away is the smaller Lyon (LYS) airport. All airports offer various car rental options.

Driving: From Marseille, it's approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive to Vaison-la-Romaine via the A7 highway. From Nice, the drive takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the A8 and A7 highways. From Lyon the drive takes about 2.5 hours mainly on the A7.

Renting a Car:

Renting a car either at the airport or the TGV station is highly recommended for exploring Vaison la Romaine and its surroundings. Having a car gives you the flexibility to explore the beautiful Provence region at your own pace and access more remote areas.

Why Having a Car is Preferable:

Public transportation has limited availability in the region, so having a car offers convenience and freedom. It allows you to explore the charming villages, vineyards, and historical sites surrounding Vaison la Romaine. However, if you prefer not to drive, there you will be able to enjoy the village and be able to have all your day to day needs met within walking distance.
